How LME Nickel Prices Drive Inconel Scrap Values
InconelScrapPrice.com | Updated June 2026
If you sell Inconel scrap regularly, understanding the London Metal Exchange (LME) nickel price is essential. Here's the direct relationship and how to use it.
The Nickel-Inconel Price Formula
As a rough rule of thumb, Inconel scrap prices track LME nickel at approximately 60–80% of the contained nickel value, adjusted for grade and form. For example:
If LME nickel = $8.00/lb, and Inconel 625 contains ~62% nickel:
Theoretical nickel value = $8.00 × 0.62 = $4.96/lb. Actual scrap price = $4.96 × 1.5–2.0 (premium for alloy content) = $7.44–$9.92/lb.
Timing Your Sale
The best time to sell Inconel scrap is when LME nickel is above $7/lb and trending upward. Monitor the LME nickel cash price at lme.com or through financial data providers.
